ssybesma (2022-12-22):

I have a version that clearly shows 1.9 (your image says version 1.4) but the games are probably almost identical to the 1.4 version offered in downloads.

(My original floppy is unreadable but many years ago I backed up the contents of the original floppy and still have that backup.)

RISKGAME files (which have no extension but the default name is RISKFILE) can be hacked to increase the number of armies on each territory. I compiled a list of the offsets for all 42 territories as far as the number of armies on each (000C to 005E) as well as the ownership on each (0062 to 00B4).

It is interesting to note that the error about army limit of 238 is only seen if you exceed 750 armies on a territory. That is because there may have been an intent to limit it to the hex value EE 00 (238) but instead that somehow became EE 02 (750).

Another curious fact of this game is that it is possible to change but not save custom colors. That was an oversight. I pored over the game file in a hex editor and was not able to discover the locations for what those values are but I do know there are 63 possible colors meaning the values probably have to be in the range between 01h (01d) and 3Fh (63d) however I don't know which color would be 01h that I can count from to determine the default values for the rest. If I knew all six hex values for the default colors, I could hack the colors in the saved game file.

Another interesting fact is that player 5's color determines the color of the inactive parts of each menu.
Seems like that was unintended and the inactive menu colors should not have been changeable.

If anyone is comfortable with hacking EXE files, those three items would need to be fixed.
