Final Fantasy reminds me of Dragon Warrior, and well if you know about that, you get my jist.

It's funny how you're trying to twist things around. If you look carefully, I didn't talk about challenges, but about the 'embodiment of the industry', because simple arcade games and adventures is where the whole computer games industry evolved from!

Talking about challenges, strategy games and adventures beat all the others hands down. There are many examples in these genres which consist of pure thought, no luck, no action, just knowledge and logic! That is not necessarily an advantage, but I'm only reacting, once again proving you wrong :P

Whilst it is true that the "puzzles" A.K.A. Quests in RPG aren't up to par with those of renowned adventures as IJatFoA or DOTT you still need all your wits about to fully master the genre. :bemused: There are still plenty of factors and actors you need to take into account when making each and every decision whilst playing your character so I wouldn't say that a decent RPG isn't food for the mind... (damn, where is that prof-smiley when you need it :P)

Role Playing Games are not mind benders. Those are in adventure, strategy, and simulation games.

Absolutely untrue. Arcade games like Pong and Adventure games like Adventure are the embodiment of the gaming industry. RPGs are the embodiment of 'teendom'.

Oh please, You got to be kidding... Quest for glory is about as much an RPG as Diablo is...

This is actually my 1001th post :P

You are right about the time of the meeting being announced on the blackboard, but as I said, I didn't even go into that room at first, but to the locker/shower room.

The Larry series is somewhere between King's Quest and Police Quest on the Sierra-crap-scale. And Quest for Glory is an RPG, so I won't even say anything about it.

If I remember correctly, leisure suit larry is a sierra-product as is the Quest for glory series... These two series alongside the lucasarts-adventures (MI,MM,DOTT,IJatFoA,...) are the embodiment of the concept "adventure" as far as I'm concerned so I would think of it as unfair to say they didn't stand the test of time seeing as I can still enjoy PQ3 or QF3 as much now as I did back in the good old days... But I must howeer agree that all the procedures in PQ1 are tiresome... Oh, and Mr C., if I recall correctly, they do inform you of the meeting by leaving a note on the BB... And Congrats on reaching 1000 posts as soon as you post again

Thanks a lot for the support :) I would never deny some of Sierra's games were quite nice back when they came out (compared to the Interactive Fiction of the same time, they have always been bad though), but they have aged extremely badly! They're a prime example of games which did not stand the test of time and looking at the latest Adventure games by Sierra, it's obvious this company has never evolved, even when others had already wiped out these silly problems.

I must say I always liked Police Quest a lot better than the King's Quest series. The real-world storyline and setting of the game made a refreshing change from the mindless amalgamation of fantasy clichés that passed for a plot in the KQ games. Also, if I remember correctly, the game was a little less affected by the sudden-death/unsolvable puzzle syndromes that plagued other Sierra games, but that might just be my memory playing tricks.

However, I have to admit that most of Mr. Creosote's comments on his review were spot-on. The endless pixel-hunting, nit-picking, dying and figuring out of silly procedures really spoils what could have been a great game. PQ was one of the first adventure games I played on the PC, and I had fun playing it back then and generally thought it was a great game. But then inevitably the time comes when you go and play a LucasArts adventure for the first time, and you say to yourself you never want to look at this sort of crap again in your life. At least, I did. :)

Look, I'm not stupid. You're missing my point however: what if I saved under 'car', but there was already something wrong before, for example I 'forgot' to do something or take something? It isn't obvious in this situation, so when I crash with the car, I will restore this saved game and again start at a position where completing the game is already impossible! If a game is as linear as most Sierra games are, you have to be forced to complete one part first before moving on to the next. Everything else is just plainly unfair.

I missed the meeting because I had to search for my locker first. In fact, I stood in front of the right one initially, but it didn't accept that because I was one pixel too far away or something. So I tried all the other ones. Then I got all my stuff, took a shower and afterwards went to the conference room. There, it told me the meeting is already over. The bad thing about this: I didn't even know there would be a meeting! This is simply stupid, the player has to be told about it!

Saving in Sierra games is both important and dangerous. I've quite often saved some mistake which didn't immediately reveal itself, played on and an hour later noticed I can't win the game anymore. Worst game design ever.

No, I never finished Police Quest. I made it to the middle approximately. Then, it just got too boring and frustrating!

Anyway save often and you'll be right.
