Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11126 | The difference is that you won't have such a big and varied army in campaign mode ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | Actually, I could have started my offensive few turns later. In the North he had just some weak units left, and South of Berlin he was runnig into my defense with his last tanks. In the East there's Oder River which impossible for "him" to pass. The problem why I did not control more objectives was that the game ended at this point. Of course that might be different in campaign mode. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11126 | Yes, I remember the Berlin scenarios to be pretty much impossible as well. When I played the campaign and incidently lost in England (to be able to play those defensive ones in context), I found them all to be pretty easy. It was impossible to have any planes, because the enemy was way too strong there. That is why all infantry and artillery was useless as well: they were always bombed to nothing in no time. My core army only consisted of 5-10 of the best tanks - but that was easily enough for the missions.... until the allies reached Berlin. Defending that many targets with such a small army - suuuuuure ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | I thought of this case, too, but I claim it's hardly possible to hold more objectives. Moreover, the single scenarios do not have a "briefing" as in the campaigns, so how should I know the number of objectives? |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11126 | You probably didn't hold enough targets. I remember the objective in the defensive missions always being 'hold at least x targets', not 'hold any target'. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | Next strange scenario: Berlin East. I played it yesterday as a single mission, being the defender. I was able to hold three of the objectives until the end, and what is next? "Allied Victory"! Does anyone know what I did wrong? |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | I'm ashamed to admit I tried to download it. Apparently, your PC was down at the moment. Anyway, lately the weather has been so nice that I spent most of my weekends outside, so I'm spending very little time on gaming. Maybe if we get a rainy weekend I'll seriously look into my collection and try to find the game . ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Nope. I'm stuck at trying to get that damn thing work under WinXP. My DOS machine doesn't have a CD-ROM drive, and I still haven't found the copy of the game I downloaded. I'm getting there, though ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | You always have to put one fighter next to the paratrooper planes in order to escort them. They won't be attacked this way because the attacker would be destroyed by "interceptors" then. |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | Okay, one question then. How do you deal with the enemy fighters? My paratroopers always get shot down. ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 964 | Quote: How? This time I placed more of my units in the north. You don't need many units in the south to conquer Oslo as your ships control the south coast. In the north you need tanks most of all, because "soft" units such as infantry and artillery will be damaged or destroyed by the allied ships. With those tanks (and probably few infantry) you can conquer the first northern city Trondheim. While I did that, I sent a paratrooper unit to the south-eastern airfield near Stavanger, where you will hardly find any defense. The other city in the north is hard to reach for ground units, so I sent paratroopers there, too. You can drop them some fields away to avoid getting attacked by the air defense. With some luck the paratroopers will be able to conquer the city before the allies purchase new units to defend it. Executing all those steps simultaneously will result in a major victory. Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1007 | How? Anyway, just last weekend I was struggling to install and play PG for Win95 on WinXP. Didn't work, even with various compatibility settings. Good thing I still have PG for DOS, but too bad it doesn't have speech. For the record, Fantasy General, Allied General and Star General gave me the same problems. The only game that I got to run was Pacific General. ----- NetDanzr
-The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog- |
