Member Prof Gumby Posts: 607 | I think tungsten carbide is a very heavy/solid metal, so probably a tungsten carbide drill is a drill bit/head or whatever you call it made from this particular alloy... What I'm more curious to know is: why the bloody hell are you asking? [Edit: tungsten carbide is not really an alloy in the chemical sense of the word... but I couldn't find a better word] Edited by The Mole at 16:08 on October, 27th 2002 ----- "One Very Important Thought" |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 936 | The tungsten carbide drill bit is produced because there is a need for a drill bit that when you are drilling you can yell "Tungsten Steel!" and look really cool. If you have anymore questions on this I can send you my Tungsten Carbide FAQ if you want. Tuss P.S. What the hell??? ----- Keep your stick on the ice |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | You have never done any 'onest work in your whole life! What do you know about it? What do you know about getting up at five o'clock in t' morning to fly to Paris... back at the Old Vic for drinks at twelve, sweating the day through press interviews, television interviews and getting back here at ten to wrestle with the problem of a homosexual nymphomaniac drug-addict involved in the ritual murder of a well-known Scottish footballer. Tell us again what you are doing with a homosexual nymphomaniac? Seriously now, Tungsten Carbide is used for drill bits so they can drill through steel and other hard objects. Most wear-resistant machine parts are made of this metal. We use them at the company I work for for drilling holes into aluminium for satalite dishes and other telecommunication equipment that we produce Edited by Delos at 23:36 on October, 28th 2002 ----- Atheism is a Non-Prophet Organisation |
