Ah, I see :) So what would you answer if a personal friend of yours asked you via e-mail if you are at home at the moment because he wanted to visit you?

depends on where I am of course :P
If I'm in leuven I would say: come on down, I'm in Leuven. Call me if I have to pick you up at the station or something...
If I'm at my parents, I would say most of the time: sorry, I'm at my parents place... you can come here if you want...

But this is mainly because most of the people I know are from Uni so they all live in/around leuven which makes it easier for them to come to my place there...

I'm just asking because I often get asked by old friends from school-time if I'm 'at home over the weekend'. If I then tell them 'yes, I wil be at home' (meaning Hamburg, because I call the place 'home' where I spend most of my life), they don't understand it and think I'm referring to my parents' place. Which I don't call home, because I'm just a visitor there...

Same goes for many of my friends from university. They ask if I'm driving home this weekend, I'm telling them I'm driving home every day after uni (after all, I'm not sleeping there ;)).

You could do what I do when I suspect that just saying "yes, I'm going home" could be wrongly interpreted. In those cases I explicitly state were I'm going (eg. I'm in leuven/tessenderlo)... That way, my friends would have to lose 99% of their cognitive functions before they can misunderstand me (slight exaguration, I know but just making a point :))

Yes, but that way, their style of question will have worked for them and they'll do the same thing again next time. Instead, I'm trying shock therapy and let them run into a wall until they figure out themselves what's wrong with the assumption

Like this:
Quote:
Friend: Are you going home this weekend?
Me: Yes.
Friend: Great! Can I visit you then?
Me: Sure. Should I fetch you from the station?
Friend: Station? I'll come by car.
Me: Ok, then keep in mind that you can't directly turn left into road xxxx from road yyyyyy
Friend: What? I thought you were at home then?
Me: Yes, I will be.
Friend: But that's your address in Hamburg!
Me: Yes, I TOLD you I would be at home.

I ask you, what is easier? Having to go through al that each time or simply saying: Yes, I'll be in Hamburg then... That way they know what you consider "home" and will eventualy learn...

It could be easier for me, but I'm trying to broaden these people's horizon by teaching them the lesson that they should have some more 'self-distance'
