Ok, there are some games where comic authors where used, but which ones?

As far as I can think right now:

Beneath a Steel Sky. Dave Gibbons (Rogue Trooper, Watchmen) worked on it drawing everything.
Kult. Cazà (Arkhé, L'Âge d'Ombre) drew it, including covers.
Opera. Used Azpiri (Lorna y su robot, Mot) and Juan Gimenez (Ciudad, The Metabarons), usually for covers but also did some graphics.
Gods. Used Simon Bisley (Slaine, Heavy Metal Dredd) drew the cover.
Fade to black. Jean "Moebius" Giraud (Blueberry, L'Incal).

What I want to make is a list of games and comic authors. If it ends with some interesting material I may put it to a good use (an article, and maybe a thematic month).

Also, games based on comics can be added. I know there are some Judge Dredd ones, also an Strontium Dog game I think. I say old games, because there are some 2000AD games from the last few years (along a XIII one and maybe one or two more comic based games), but most of them are just your typical shooter.

- For SNES (and probably also other consoles - I'm not so familiar with those), there are probably countless comic based games. I distinctly remember quite a few featuring Batman as well as a funny Double Dragon clone featuring the Avengers.
- I think there's a Hellboy game, but I don't know if that classifies as 'old' (2000 according to Mobygames, so close to ten years by now).

Also for SNES I know there are some based on japanese comics, like Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star. Punches guy, heads explode) or JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

But we need more of the hard to see kind. The ones you don't think of are the more interesting. I recall there is an Alien's interactive comic (or wathever it was). Probably based on the comics.

Sam & Max is on the site already, and it's based on a comic series. Also "Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis" is based on a comic from the awful Indiana Jones comics and is here.

If we extend to comic-looking I think on Full Throttle. Already on the site. But also on Space Quest V? Or was it VI the comic-looking one?

Looking for more Van Hamme's comics I see there is one based on Thorgal which seems to transform him into some kind of barbarian... Also it's new, so luckily it's out of the list.

On the other side is Atari Force. Never read the originals, but I liked the numbers I have of the second part.

Well, if I were to grade the games I listed according to 'interest', here are the ones I'd say have something to them:

- Asterix And Son (though I think it's not actually much of a game, but rather just a comic on CD - nevertheless a curious rarity)

- Terraquake (the He-Man game already on the site - interesting, because it's a text adventure, which at first glance seems to be totally inapproriate for that series)

- The Questprobe games, for the same reason as Terraquake

- X-Men 2: The Fall of the Mutants (if I remember correctly, it's some sort of RPG - again, surprising choice of genre)

The rest is pretty much your usual side-scrolling Jump'n'Run / Fighting stuff.

It's of course your topic, but do you really want to include games which just have a comic book style visually? That'll be quite a long list then. Start with all the Space Quest games, all the Larry games, all the Monkey Island games, the Maniac Mansion games and so on and so on.

Where it probably gets more interesting again is games which use the actual comic book panel style. There, we have fewer. The Case of the Cautious Condor, Murder Makes Strange Deadfellows, Noctropolis (intro / cut scenes) and Silverload (intro only) come to my mind.

Better leaving the style out. Maybe there could be later a list of cartoon games, or drawn games.

I've recalled two more (should make a clean list with all):

The Rocketeer. Is more like the film, with an attempt of giving it a 50's look (even thought the comic is from the 80s).

Cadillacs & Dinosaurs. There are lots, but I'm talking about the four CDs PC game. Based on Xenozoic Tales, but I think it has more relation to the series based on the comic (which I never watched).

The manual of the game Dark Legions claims:

I've been looking using the credits on Mobygames, and some of them seem to have done a few comics, but can't find more. I suppose they reffer to the Heavy Metal film, as the magazine, like the european versions (Metal Hurlant, which means Screaming Metal, on the original) had lots of authors on it's run.

If they worked on the first film, though luck, as they used some of the best authors of the time, who sucked all the attention. If they worked on the new ones... well, nobody (not even me) seems to have seen them.

I didn't recognize any of the names listed in the manual, but then again, how many recognizable names are there in the comics / animation business? Dark Legions looks good, but the style isn't too distinct.

I have the game on my to-do list (as mentioned in that other thread). Or do you want me to leave it to you for some kind of special or anything?

The recognizable names I suppose depend on the country. Here in Spain we had a boom of comics during the eighties, helped by Toutain, a guy who became one of the more important comic editors. Thanks to that, many authors who would otherwise have sank into oblivion got a bit of fame, and now sink to oblivion as nobody seems to read comics (or anything).

You can have it. I think there is plenty to choose on this topic, and probably there are still a few more.

I've just recalled for example there is a game based on "The bird of time" and another on "The passengers of wind". Thought I can't find them right now.

Found Passengers of the Wind for Amiga (in English, French and German), and even a second part (French, Atari ST). Both parts are also widely available in English and German for the C64. The first part has apparantely also been ported to the IBM, but I can't find that one - you're better at locating PC games than I am
