Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | When viewing a thread or a subforum (but not the main forum page nor the reply page), there's about a 45px space on the right edge of the screen. What I mean is that the page itself fits the screen fully (as it should), but then it extends an extra 45px past the right of the screen, but strangely this extra margin is somehow seperate form the main page. The main background of the page is a pale grey, but this margin is pure white. It seems as though the page has a style of width:100%;margin-right:45px Here's a screenshot: edit: That margin seems to be percentage based. If I shrink my browser window, that space also shrinks. Maybe the body element is set to 100% & the html element is set to 102% or some such. here's a couple full-window shots: http://allspark.net/cypherswipe/good-old-gap-1.png http://allspark.net/cypherswipe/good-old-gap-2.png You'll notice in the first one that while the page fills the screen as it should, I have a horizontal scrollbar You'll notice in the second one that when i scroll to the right, that strange gap appears. ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. ----- Edited by Cypherswipe at 03:04 on July 22nd, 2009 |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | Might be because of your monitor settings,I tried zooming in on the text just now & when I zoomed in far enough the margin thing disappeared. This seems to be an issue related to the gecko engine. It appears in both older & newer versions (comparable to firefox 2 and 3), but doesn't appear in opera nor safari4. The arrows are from xnview, an image viewer, it's my image viewer/manipulator of choice. While it can't do actual editing, it can open almost any image format, save a slew of different formats, do general manipulation such as cropping, resizing, reducing colors, applying photoshop filters, blurring, sharpening, etc. It also has a basic painting plugin which allows you to draw & write on images, those arrows are one of the built-in functions of this plugin. (You can check a box to turn on arrowheads at the end of any line that you draw & you can choose the border & fill colors.) ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | I, too, get the scrollbar, but the area on the right is tinted in the usual background colour, so I never thought much of it. I think the reason is one of the elements which has a 10% margin on the left, but still has '100%' width. The latter is, unfortunately, measured without taking the margin into account. I don't think this is really a huge problem, but I might take another look in the next few days. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | The background color seems to depend on what version of firefox/gecko you're using. The 1.8x GRE (ie, FF2) produces the white margin, the 1.9x GRE (ie, FF3) makes it the same color as the page background. It's not a big problem by any means, just some weird quirk. I don't even know how long it's been like that. I discovered it today when I went to autoscroll the page down & accidentally went down & to the right, then thought "wait.. wha...??". ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | It is actually amazing how the Gecko engine (and also the Firefox browser) gets worse with every new release ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |
