Member Baby Gumby Posts: 1 | I'd Like to use this site to download games but there is this stupid point system. I never see any one on the fourm. Also the main web site layout is f**k messy and I can not figure out how to do much, Can we not host the disk img files on other sites like mediafire? its not 2005, no more, all Zip\rar files are under 200MB. Has some one dumped all of the games in one big file.. NO Has some one made a torrent of all of the game ........NO Is this site easy to use ..............................NO Am I mad YES!!! Why can this not be easer? I work on computer for a living and I am fustrated at the web site, and its stupid point system I have never seen a site with the dam point system, How about limit downloads for users with no points. How about make a max amout of points and give people good benfits. Oh yea I forgot that exists, |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | This all has been discussed, with this being a -> reviews <- website and all that. As for hosting on mediafire, rapidshare, megaupload... that's frankly stupid. You don't have control over your uploads, which can be removed any time, and should be downloaded frequently or otherwise dissappear. That ends in three quarters of any collection disappearing. In that case, Wandrell's answer is perfectly to the point: Collecting disk images is not the main point of the site. We started cataloguing (mind the difference) them, because nobody else does. Downloads become available whenever a game is regularly covered on the main part site. Why has nobody made a big torrent of the images? Why has nobody made all images available through any other means? I don't know. Everybody's welcome to as far as I'm concerned. Though apparantely, the people who provided the images for the catalogue are happy with the current arrangement, otherwise they'd have taken addition steps to ensure public availability, wouldn't they? ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | These messages would at least look a bit menacing if it weren't because people post them, and then completely forget about them. It would be like we had fans filled with hate wanting our hear. But this. What's even the point of this fire-and-forget post? |

Member Master Gumby Posts: 115 | Hm hm hm... reminds me of glory days when I got mails of people wishing me to die of cancer or to just stick pointy things in my eyes because I wouldn't add those games to the site they wanted (well... new games that was - games still being sold). Ah... I miss those days... NOT! |

Member Pupil Gumby Posts: 14 | I believe that he was talking about original floppy images. (I believe that I saw something about 50 points to download image, and again the same file I was able to download from game link?!) |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Yes, that's the same files. They become publicly available once the respective games are entered into the regular part of the site. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Baby Gumby Posts: 1 | I also would like to download a disk image for a game I've been looking for. I'm willing to do whatever to get points, but I have to sympathize with the original posted in that the site *is* very confusing, it's not very apparent what needs to be done, the FAQ is missing some key questions (like "how do I get points"), and I still haven't figured out how to get any points. How do I download disk image? I read somewhere on the forum that writing a review is worth 10 points? How do I write reviews? I'm assuming I need points because it said "you don't have enough contribution points". I'm assuming I need *50* points because elsewhere on the site (confusingly, not in the download error message - I think it was in the Site FAQ [not the Game FAQ, why there are two, I'm not sure]) there was a mention of 50 points to download game images. I am not sure if this site is popular enough at this time to warrant a points system, although I definitely see the benefits of having one. I'm not trying to be too critical or asking for the game for free, I'm just confused, slightly frustrated with the site layout, and haven't figured out how to get any points yet. I'm 100% willing to contribute before downloading, but having to hunt for this information in the site, which is not very well-organized, kinda stinks. Thanks! ----- Edited by NotInterested at 20:44 on April 17th, 2012 |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | I hope you are interested in a reply nevertheless... The explanation of what amount of points you need to download disk images, you already found. A list of things which give you points is on the very same page. That page is linked to from the front page and also from the download page which denied you access, i.e. where we expected people to need them. Or you could even just go to the list of users (link available from the front page...) and see on everybody's profile what they did to get how many points - there is a detailed breakdown there. How do you enter reviews? Go to "Share" or simply select "Write review" - a link which can be found on any game's page! If you believe this information should be more visible or better organised, nobody is denying you might very well have a point. However, just stating it will not magically improve things. Tell us where you would expect the FAQ, where you would expect links to enter games and reviews etc.! The site has gone through many different design/navigation in the past 12 years (as briefly outlined in the history article a link to which can be found on the front page). The former approach was basically to make all options permanently visible. People didn't like that, because they were overwhelmed by the huge number of links. Now, the site follows a task-oriented paradigm, but who says this is perfect? Certainly not us. ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! ----- Edited by Mr Creosote at 06:13 on April 18th, 2012 |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | Funny, I never even noticed the point system, nor noticed whether or not I had any points. As it turns out, I have 90. 50 for having more than 500 forum posts, and the other 40 for 2 games/reviews. It's a bit confusing though, because the one thing just says "games", I'm guessing it means "games rated"? ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | I thought that at first, but I've never entered any games. I think perhaps there's some bug which is giving credits for adding a game when you are merely reviewing it (or perhaps it's something with when you're the first person to review a game?) I've rated 3 games, reviewed 2, added none. I have 10 points each for the 2 games that i reviewed, with the points awarded twice (once under "games"). ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | No, checking the archives, the reason is this: The two games you reviewed predate this 'credits' counting. It might have been actually me who entered the game data and made the screenshots. So strictly speaking, this is wrong. However, the initial import consisted of simply crediting the first reviewer of each game with entering it also. Apart from your two games, this is correct. For games entered in the last few years, this is handled independently, of course. So, anyway, as both of us don't really seem to care much about how much credits we have exactly, I don't think it's really worth transferring those 20 ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | Well, if you don't care about your credits, you could always transfer a few thousand of them to me. *whistles innocently* ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |
