Today's update on The Good Old Days marks the third addition of Brutal Sports Football to the site. It's all the same game, but with vast technical differences (as one can easily see from the respective screenshots). The question is: Do you consider this interesting? Do you actually like to compare or are you satisfied with only one version - the one the webmasters choose?

Deffinitelly. I love comparing different versions... In addition, I believe that it goes well with one of the premises of abandonware - making sure games won't be forgotten...

Yes, as long as the versions do have some major differences in fact. If not, I'd prefer offering the best version only.

I've never seen that AGA version. It looks impressive! Good work.

I'd say "yes" on two circumstances:

1) The versions are significately different, or at least have enough different features to make comparisons interesting; or

2) The alternative version is, in itself, a technical achievement for that particular system or at least gives you something you wouldn't normally expect to see on that particular platform. (This is not an example you're familiar with but it's the only one that comes to mind: Sim City on the ZX Spectrum. Sure, the PC version was better, but whoever thought that game could be converted to an 8-bit 48Kb machine?)


Otherwise, I'd stick to the most representative version.

Well, seeing that most people would like to see that (and if it's only under certain circumstances), I guess I'll add a very rare version of Pirates! Gold with a completely different style of graphics (poppier instead of the aquarell style of the PC version) next

It's so... pink! Actually, it reminds me of those early technicolor pirate movies. They used some outrageously colorfull costumes for the pirates back then, and the colors all looked saturated.

When the game came out, it was of course celebrated as being far superior to the PC version by the magazines which reviewed it. I mean, they had to do that, they were Amiga magazines

Back then, wasn't every single game for the Amiga better than the PC version?

No, some crappy games (which were crappy on every system) were admitted to be lousy conversions And in most reviews, a PC version was of course not even mentioned. That makes sense of course, what's the point of always comparing everything with 'off-topic' versions?
