Disk 3 all green, but doesn't match [2501]. No action taken. Now that you tell me disk 3 is green I think it's actually legit and what we're looking at here is in all probability an alternative release of the game. I've no idea what's up with those 3 files, but if their root properties were individually modified we would see it and if the entire disk was overwritten with earlier applied changes we would also see it. Could you possibly think of any alternative scenario? @mikic, Question: were your disks of Heroes of the Lance definitely write-protected or not? Quote: How exactly does one be able to download disk images here??? I tried to download the "fixed" disk images from Buck Rogers and it tells me I don't have enough contribution points not logged or something along those lines. First you have to collect 50 points by contributing in a variety of ways, sharing files is one of them. BUT... you should nonetheless have access to your own contributed files. Terribly sorry about that, I shall send you the file and report this incident. Quote: I have somewhere in the neighborhood of @1000 disks and CD-ROMs created from my own personally owned physical disks. Incredible. Do you think you could make a list of all your CDs? Added: Carrier Strike: South Pacific 1942-44 (2856): v1.0 Manual copy protection. Great Naval Battles Vol. II: Guadalcanal 1942-43 (2857): v1.0 Manual copy protection. Phantasie III: The Wrath of Nikademus (2858): v1.0 Manual copy protection. Stellar Crusade (2859): v1.2 Manual copy protection. Restored OEM ID, cleaned AT. ----- Cheer up! Member Bachelor Gumby Posts: 49 | Don't know if this helps, but the Heroes of Lance disks have no "notches". Neither do Star Command or Buck Rogers' disks. Now that I look at all the other 5.25 floppies they all have "notches", but these don't. Thank you. I'll have 50 points in no time! Downloaded the fixed Buck Rodgers. Thank you for repairing the .img and sending me the link. Well, I could make a list but there's a lot! I just did a count of the individual CD-ROM titles, I own and imaged (with Alcohol 120), stored on my external storage HD and there are 502 game files in a whopping 485GBs! I never got through imaging the entire pile of CD-ROM titles I collected as I recall, but I think I got through 85%. Some. These + the 225+ Floppy titles puts me @1000. I was obsessed once upon a time! I broke my addiction about 5 years ago, through an intervention by my wife....we're out of space, your spending all our money on your hobby, and if you don't stop I'm divorcing you. It went something like that Speaking of CD-ROM. How exactly would one upload them, since there is an upload limit? |

Well, congratulations I guess... on keeping your marriage together, hehe Quote: Speaking of CD-ROM. How exactly would one upload them, since there is an upload limit? That is another issue. You see, apart from the said limit our site is not exactly fit for CD images yet. I mean we do have some of them in the review section, but they are smaller ones plus I'm not sure if the given FTP space would allow us to store a greater amount of such files. We've considered external linking, but apparently it has certain pitfalls. Either way, this is something to discuss with Mr Creosote, I honestly don't know what to say at this point. Do you think you could produce some kind of IMG from disk 1? The one we have at the moment is a WinImage remake. If at least MBR and root are intact I could possibly mend it. ----- Cheer up! I've uploaded 2 IMG files from 2 different converters. They are beyond my ability to work with. Too much guess work to rebuild, for me. With the original disks (and an owner that doesn't mind the possibility of making things worse,) I could possibly get better results playing mix & match, cut & paste, and cleaning of the disk surface (that's the part that can make it worse.) But I cannot really work with what I have Of the 2 images.. One has lost the boot sector completely (first byte of IMG file is start of first FAT.) The other, shows an error, but does put the boot sector in place. Beyond that, the Root Directory is corrupted in both cases. Though the resulting data is different in each case. May be able to rebuild with that, but I wouldn't trust it completely |

He returned all the disks too me and there're no signs of any efforts to restore disk surfaces. He also made no attempts to "fix" any img files. It dumped what it dumped as is. Happy to ask him if it matters and will help. Star Command is another with no "notches". Fortunately, as I mentioned, I copied all the files from all disks back in the day when I had working 3.5 and 5.25 floppy drives and pre-discovery of WinImg. The .ima file I included I believe are the actual files from disk 1. Not a true .img verified, but may be the best we can do with that one! |

Member Master Gumby Posts: 102 | I think I'll make myself a little more clear. That was me softly offering to dump disks for people. Including attempted data recovery. The extreme form of that can (but is not always,) a little destructive. So I won't go there without permission. All I ask is that they cover shipping. |
