Seeing the interest for advanced sector/flux-based copy protected dumps is ever more aroused, we decided to take a turn in this direction and see what we can do. So far, there is little information with regards to best dumping methods, preferred formats for both preservation and restoration to physical disks as well as copy protected games themselves and types of copy protection schemes which they originally hosted.

At this stage we only have a list of such games, which is probably incomplete. Any help in completing it as well as providing information as to specific CP schemes each of them originally employed would be very much appreciated!

You can add Oo-Topos. It's a Polarware adventure game and its a DOS game, it uses key-disk copy protection. Teledisk doesn't seem to be able to dump it properly, as the TD0 output seems to become unreadable.

Needs to be dumped by Kryoflux and/or SCP.

You can add The 2x720K 3.5" Software Toolworks release of The Four Crystals of Trazere for DOS to the key disk list, with a twist.

Specifically, it uses a compromise between buyer convenience and protection efficacy where the installer checks for an alternating sequence of bad and good sectors on the disk (inside the MIKE_DUF.FY file) and then, if it's satisfied, it installs a copy of the game that doesn't require the floppies but is locked to some sort of fingerprint of your specific PC's hardware, so it protects against "copy parties" but not against sharing your originals with people you trust.

Visualizations of the bad sectors

(Speaking of those screenshots, something I just discovered is that ddrescueview can watch your GNU ddrescue .log file for changes so you can get a GUI progress indication of the dumping process, including having the little highlight square track where ddrescue is currently reading from.)

It's also picky enough that, if you're installing it on a Windows 98SE machine, you have to use the "Restart in MS-DOS mode" option to get it to install and, once you've done that, the fingerprint check won't pass if you boot into Windows.

(I have the bad luck of having to do that because Trazere insists on running in EGA mode on the DOS622/Win3.11 side of my my retro PC's dual-boot setup despite the installer detecting VGA and the dithering is horendous.)

Also, it looks like Rocky's Boots has on-disk copy protection.

(See the MobyGames photo of the floppy label)

I stumbled across that after noticing Math Rabbit on your list and trying to figure out when they stopped using key disks, given that my earliest TLC game (Outnumbered v1.02, which predates their decision to support Adlib sound but does have EGA graphics) doesn't have key disk protection.
