I think what he is trying to say is that the page should not be chached. That way when you request the page, you always recieve the new page without the <<< >>> tags. Something with meta tags, don't know them by heart.

Oh maybe a new posts folder where all the treads are listed with posts that you haven't read, unless it already exists.

Still don't get it. When something's marked 'unread', I read and reply to it and go to the index again, it's marked read. What's wrong with that?

I mean that I often come here, read the baord, leave, return still see the >>> on the forum list EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE NO NEW POSTS since my last visit. I have to refresh the forum list to see if there's really any new posts. In short, the page is getting cached when it really shouldn't. I'm saying you should put a tag on the page telling everyone's browsers NOT to cache it. I know that there is a 'no cache' meta tag, and there are probably other tags that do it as well.

Now, before you say that I should change my browser settings, I don't have this problem on other boards, only here. My browser settings are the same from one board to the next, therefore the other boards must be doing something differently. I'm assuming they use no-cache tags, but there might be other ways to prevent the page from getting cached. (I know for a fact that VB boards have an option on the admin page to put no cache headers in the pages, and I assume that most other board scripts do as well.)

Yes, I understand what you mean now. It has never happened to me though, so I do assume we're just using different browser settings. That should not be an excuse for keeping it this way, but it's the reason why I just couldn't understand what you're talking about ;) Will have a look into this and try to find a solution which should be working for everyone :)

I'm using mozilla and have it set to get new versions of a page "when the page is out of date".

Yes, I just checked and I set my browsers to always reload scripted pages.

I've added three meta tags now: expiration of '0', no-cache and a command to proxies not to cache the pages. Please test it.

Seems to be working.

What browser do you use? I can't find any cache options that are specific to scripted pages in mozilla, and I don't recall any in IE either.

Why not create an addressbook for the Messenger? So I don't have to remeber the exact spelling of a members name (you know how good my spelling is).

Suggestion for post formatting: The possibility to use a font type with a fixed width (i.e. Courier) could be useful in certain situations.

That's good, but you might consider mentioning this possibility on the help page. :)

Suggestion for post formatting: a center tag. Not absolutely necessary, but might be useful for posting pictures, for example.
