Sound emulation

Does anyone know of a program that can emulate a good old AdLib or SoundBlaster Pro... or anything that will allow me to use my sound card (an SB 128 PCI) with older games (such as the LucasArts adventures I've been replaying for the quiz)? I'm stuck with PC speaker now, and I really loved the music in those games :(

I'm running Windows XP which - I know - doesn't make things any easier, but switching to another OS is not an option (having other users on this PC and all )...

I always thought all cards by Creative had basic compatibility to their FM cards.... :worried:

Yes I remember in Windows 98 almost all my old games worked fine... Not anymore though, I guess Windows XP handles sound cards differently...

First, you should check if your sound card is maybe set to a strange IRQ, DMA or Port. If that's not the case, try VDMSound. I've never tried it myself of course, but it promises to address exactly this problem.

Yes Mole, I had this problem too for a while but when I checked my settings, it appeared that my soundcard had an IRQ of 10 but most olda games don't recognize this so you should change it to 5 and give any other device that might have been given this irq the other one (10 that is) as to prevent conflicts... That way your soundcard should work fine again... and check your dma so as that isn't set to 0 'cause they won't recognise that either... 1 or 3 will do as dma seeing they were standard in those days... hope this fixes your problem...

Didn't find the DMA setting immediately so I just installed VDMSound, and that does the job for me...
So thanks, problem's solved :)
