Monkey Island 2 - dead end?

I'm playing that game at the moment and have reached the middle of Part 2 - The Four Map Pieces. One thought came to my mind which I unfortunately can't try anymore because I've overwritten my old savegame: what happens if you're losing your whole money at the wheel of fortune without having bought the necessary equipment at the shop on Booty Island? Has anyone ever tried that?

I don't think anyone would try that just for fun... :)

But the logical answer would be that you can go polish the pirate's peg-leg again when you lose all your money... I don't know, just speculation. In any case, I always thought you can't get totally stuck in Monkey Island 2...

The pirate with the wooden leg only has 19 pieces o' eight to give you. And besides, what if you've already sawed off his leg and then lose your money?

Another way to spend all your money would be to buy more and more drinks at the bar. Same question...

Are you sure about this? I know he only gives you 19 when you need 20 to charter a ship, but what about when you go back later on in the game? Anyway, I'm not sure of this...

By the way doesn't the woodchuck fix his leg? I've also just finished the game again a week or two ago (for the quiz), so all my savegames are closer to the end and I'd have to start over to know for sure...

But I posted my previous reply because I vaguely remember going back to the peg-legged pirate when I was stuck in the part where you need a few thousand pieces o' eight for Kate Capsize, and I think he gives more pieces then (not the thousands you need of course).

I've just tried it and he indeed gives you more gold once his leg has been repaired. If he doesn't have enough to finance Captain Kate's boat though, it has to be limited somehow again - and you can lose / spend any limited amount.

Maybe it's just programmed that he will always give you [(amount needed to progress) - 1], or something along those lines...

The only way to find this out would be to go for the pirate's limit, then spend some of it and come back to see if he has more money to offer...

To anyone who feels the need to try this: happy clicking... :P

By the way this raises another question: suppose you can always go back for some amount of money; will Guybrush eventually run out of polish? :bemused:
