Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | I know that article is not serious, but I hate when people think the only comics that exist are the ones of superheroes... And also, at least around here, there is quite a bunch of women that read them (mainly japanese ones, but it's better than nothing). Apart from comics, of the list I try to keep roleplaying games among my hobbies. I have tried playing collectible card games, but as I'm not interested in wasting all the money I get trying to keep an aceptable deck that was left quicly. I have not played Everquest, but until recently I played Ultima Online and I have seen how the people can spend too much time and energies on an online game. The list is a nice collection of the more typical stereotipes, but I would replace the one of the scrapbooks for something else, perhaps games of miniatures. |

Guest | Hm, I thought scrapbooking was becoming a pretty popular 'girly' hobby nowadays? I see all the craft stores filled with the stuff. Or maybe its just a 'geeky girl' hobby? Meh, I don't keep up with the current trends to know for sure. :p But I agree, the stereotyping in the article is pretty irritating. |

Star wars is good as long as you don't go overboard and start dressing like the characters. CCGs are good (kinda like RPGs, but take less time to play), although it's best to play them via software so as to avoid the issue of forking out too much cash on the cards. Star trek is the same as star wars, good as long as you don't take it to stupid levels. ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | The article doesn't say anything about how 'good' (by whatever standard) these hobbies are. It's just the price you have to pay they're talking about. And like it or not - their classification is pretty accurate... Edited by Mr Creosote at 16:34 on May, 05th 2006 ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Guest | Even tho its more 'mainstream' acceptable, lots of sports fans are pretty damn geeky. Painting themselves team colors and wearing huge foam hats and such HAS to be kind of equal to StarWars cosplay, at least. ^^ |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | Although I never looked at it like this before, that's a very good point. The difference is probably that computer/sci-fi/fantasy geeks are a pretty pathetic bunch which everybody can make fun of safely while nobody dares to mock a horde of drunk and marauding sports 'geeks' ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |
