Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | What Nintendo offers sounds good, what Microsoft haves no, but Sony doesn't sound serious: http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/05/scee-vp-says-ps3-will-cost-499-to-599-euros/ It is well known how are the consoles nowadays, but, does Sony expect it becomes a luxury playing the next continuation of a boring game, in the best case? Today the companies move too much money with games to find a nice cuantity of good games... |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | First sign of Microsoft crushing them like they do with all competition. There simply is no single company which can beat them on marketing terms, because with the insane amounts of money Microsoft has at its hands, it can easily afford to carry a product line in spite of selling its hardware with a loss - just to win the market. Blaming it on Blue-Ray is just silly, though. I wonder if they seriously expect to establish that technology on the video market if that's the price tag... ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | Previous systems hitting the market at around $400 USD was insane, but they dropped down to more reasonable prices after a while. The PS3 will probably start out around the price they said, but quickly drop down to something more reasonable when everyone says "bite me, I'm not paying that much for a friggin gaming system!". ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | Of the three the only I take in consideration is Nintendo, not only they dared to do something new, and it is sad that making something new is a daring move; they also are offering the things at a more aceptable price, with the DS at around 100? and the games for it starting at a maximun of 40?, while the PSP is more expensive and Sony said that their prices are too low to be competitive... Also apparently the new console of Nintendo, now called Wii, will be around 200?. Albeit those, and many more, problems the console games have there is one thing I like the most of them, multiplayer, in which, again, wins Nintendo, as it barely exists in other consoles. |

Member Baby Gumby Posts: 8 | The developmer's kit for the Wii is like, only $2000, as well. I believe both other systems' are several hundred thousand at least. So on the 3rd party side as well, the Wii is a better deal, too, it seems. ----- Sim Addict |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | They say that "Wii" is supposed to make people think of togtherness or some such (the ii's are supposed to look like 2 people sitting there playing), but the first thing it reminded me of was WWI or WWII. ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11097 | 'Wee' was the first thing which came into my mind. I have no idea how it's supposed to be pronounced, but this is how it would sound if spoken in a German way... ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 740 | It's supposed to be pronounced "we". When I first read about the name on wiklipedia, it said that the name sounded like some different existing words in different languages, all of which meant something along the lines of "fun" or "together". However, the article seems to have gotten edited since then, and I can't find the reference anymore. ----- At the end of the day, you're left with a bent fork & a pissed off rhino. |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | There are some videos on YouTube of the games that where shown on E3 and the one of Mario was called Mario Galaxy. Did not look as interesting as Metroid Prime 3, which as the first looks like it will be one of the best shooters for console, it had good graphics, as they where detallistic, not just simple, and good ideas, like the visors that really change how you see the things. One of the things shown that called my attention was that the joystick expansion for the controller, wich haves a motion sensor, is used for moving Samus left hand and graving things with the energy whip. The change of name was related to their wish of being apolitic. They thought Revolution would be found offensive by some people, even thought their most famous character is a proletarian hero. This reminds me of the attachment. Edit: too big attachment, but this solves it: http://rapidshare.de/files/21423077/Soviet_Mario.swf.html Edited by Wandrell at 13:23 on May, 26th 2006 |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | I have heard of this, but didn't thought it was serious: http://www.gamesradar.com/gb/ps3/game/news/article.jsp?articleId=20060524153157765035§ionId=1006 Protected games that will work in only one console to avoid second hand and lent games. I got a second hand PS2 for what people lents me and only bought a pair of games (I liked R-Type Final and the other was really cheap), both second hand, the console haves some good games, but not so good. It seems they wish the consoles to be a luxury, not a commodity. But this kind of thing normally end in nothing. |

Guest | Quote: Sony said that their prices are too low to be competitive... These companies no longer realize what an oxymoron (emphasis on the MORON) that statement is... arguably there is no such thing that a price is too *low* to be *competitive*... what they mean is that they can't sell the hardware at both the profit level and the volume they would like to sell it at... poor babies... z On the Wii front, I have the ?prototype? for the controller, the Gyration gyroscopic in-air mouse. It is definitely unique and interesting, excellent for gross movement and immersion but imprecise, making it not a great pc pointing device. It is quite fun and interesting though. (They use it on NCIS) ;P |

Member Retired Gumby Posts: 1092 | I have heard of those controllers for PC that "sense" motion, but they use gyroscopes and the Wii controller uses a sensor that has to be put in the TV, an a few gyroscopes for twisting, or sudden moves in the analogic add-on. For what I have seen in the E3 videos and read it works far better than those other things. |
