Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | You thought ol' Mr Creosote would never buy a new computer? Then you were wrong! Or maybe you thought it would only be a matter of time until lil Creosote finally breakes down and falls to the lure of new hardware? Then you were right! Check the attached picture - isn't she a beauty? Edited by Mr Creosote at 22:59 on October, 14th 2002 ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

You may be too young to know that, but Commodore produced most of their machines to run with everything necessary packed into a slightly enlarged keyboard case. Very handy, but only little air circulation if you want to upgrade things Well the keyboard certinally looks nice NetDanzr: In fact, I fairly sure mine is a lot more powerful (leading over to Breaker's question ): -68030 CPU / 50 MHz -2 MB Chip RAM, 32 MB Fast RAM -1 GB hard drive -CD-ROM drive (not plugged in yet) -Kickstart 3.1 -AmigaOS 3.1 (soon to be replaced by AmigaOS 3.5, 3.9 costs 50? or something, i.e. it's too expensive and I don't really need it). ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | My next step will be to enslave my PC by the Amiga and use it as a proxy to go online with the A1200. Could do that directly, but that would require a lot of plugging/unplugging and switching back and forth. Furthermore, I could use this PC-Amiga connection to transfer files (gaaaaaamesssssssssssss). Only bad thing is that Aminet seems to have some problems at the moment, so I can't get some tools I need for that ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | No, it's one of the machines from Escom production. Escom bought Commodore and continued producing Amigas until they went bancrupt themselves. Then, Gateway bought Escom, the rights on the Amiga were transferred to Amiga Technologies however which again continued production. Today, it's Amiga Inc. which still supplies classic hardware. So yes, it can still be bought new (there are a few shops in Germany and the UK mainly which have these retail Amigas), but I bought mine 'used'. According to the former owner, it didn't run for longer than 30 hours though and seeing the state of the machine (not the slightest yellowing, tidy interior,...) I tend to believe him ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Admin Reborn Gumby Posts: 11098 | It was highly unfortunate for the Amiga to be bought by a company which was in financial trouble itself - Escom couldn't back up the hardware appropriately, they couldn't properly advertise the line and (of course) couldn't develop new models based on the Amiga technology. If that's not a reason to disappear from the mass market.... ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

I have an old game I would love to play on a Amiga like in the old days with my Commador Amiga 1000 (upgraded from 500)... ah... those were the days... can you still get those old classic red joysticks?? Now I'm 99% convinced you never owned an Amiga in your whole life! First of all, the company is still called Commodore. And if you ever had had such a machine, you would know it's not possible to 'upgrade' from an A500 to an A1000 because A1000 was the first (older) model and A500 a later one with more RAM, newer OS and a completely different case!Quote: can you still get those old classic red joysticks?? The cheap 'Quickjoys' and alike broke on a weekly basis and I don't think they're made anymore. The Competition Pro models can still be bough though and I never saw a broken one, I have two of those here (as well as 6 other joysticks ).Edited by Mr Creosote at 15:47 on October, 16th 2002 ----- Now you see the violence inherent in the system! |

Member Baby Gumby Posts: 8 | Lovely machine MrC. Will have to dig up my A1k from the loft and get it running again. 256k Ram. Powerfull beastie that. Was trying to find another one *preferably dead to turn into a funky Lan box for my PC. Will hold the keyboard nicely underneath. Joystick wise, I always used the pro joysticks or canabalised broken one's and made my own from arcade parts. S'easy to do. Simon/~Flibster |
