What happened to the server this time? The whole site was offline for several hours.

Don't know anything about that and since it's up again now, I don't care. It's not my responsibility anymore.

According to the host, it was some script running in a loop. That's one of the disadvantages of not having a dedicated server: you never know what other people will do...

Your current host/server is crap (just in case you didn't know). This is what, the 3rd time in about a month?
The site's back up and nothing was lost (at least as far as I can tell) so this crash wasn't bad in and of itself, but the frequency of these occurences is bullshit. I get better reliablity than this on the free server I'm using. Whatever you're paying these people is too much. :-\

Shut up, I have enough of this now. I'm working on this constantly, I'm walking on the fine line of being constantly broke, and all you do is complain? Take this somewhere else! And yes, I'm in a bad mood.

1) I'm not complaining. My first post here was a simple question wondering what happened, my second one was a comment and was aimed at the idiots behind your host/server. Period.
2) Yes, it's quite obvious that you're in bad mood.
3) All things considered, you might honestly be better off with a free server. www.freewebspace.net is a good resource for them. There are several that include php and sql. I don't know if any will meet your exact needs or not, I do know that 95% of them offer equal or better reliability and you don't have to pay them.

You have no idea what makes a good host! I'll give you some examples why I consider my current host very good:
-when I cancelled my old server, they set up my account within minutes
-because I had no idea how much bandwidth I will be needing, we'll just see for a month (for which I will not pay in advance) and then talk about the costs
-when the former host took too much money from me in spite of them promising it differently and I therefore could not afford to get a new server for downloads back up, I just told the owner of the current host exactly this and he just accepted it and I didn't have to pay anything - in spite of my former order
-for the new file hosting which I now ordered, I again don't know how much traffic I'll cause - the same deal (watching it for a month) takes effect
-I have access to the host's reseller module allowing me to set up an unlimited number of domain names, databases and accounts (e-mail, ftp....) without influencing the costs
-when this recent downtime (the first one by the way - before, it was never down for longer than 10 minutes!) occured, the host sent me an e-mail apologizing and saying they've now set up another notifier so that they can notice such things more quickly whereas with other hosts, I always had to take the initiative and had to kick their asses so that they do anything at all
-last but not least: Abandonware is tolerated

There is no single free host which offers such service, such stability and such reliability! That you suggest Freewebspace is nothing but a punch in my face because I've been linking to that site from the very first day TGOD got online!

Conclusion: Don't try to play the smart guy about things you have no clue about!

You obviously didn't try any of these free hosts. If you had, you would know their reliability is much, much worse. Moreover, they have ads, strictly limited space, limited file sizes, limited file types, and will kick you after some time. Those which have extra features like php enabled are always the first ones to shut down.

Cypherswipe: I just visited your site; it was covered with a Lycos ad, and the forum wasn't accesible. That's not exactly what I call professional hosting...

And just to add to this: The Good Old Days (without downloads) currently needs 250 MB space and 20 GB traffic (a month). Again - without downloads and also not counting any of the other hosted sites. Show me a free host which offers this and of course accessible nameservers to host several domain names and subdomains and I'll happily switch over to there.

I say: "Free hosts are more reliable than paid hosts."

Now I want a free test account on a paid server. ;)
