Review by Underdogs:
B.A.L.L.O from Finnish developer group Marelwish Production is the well-deserved winner in the "game" category of the Assembly 2004 competition. The idea is quite innovative: you must swing a ball across a narrow cave without letting the ball touch any surface. The catch is the ball is attached to the metal rod that cannot be bent. Each mouse click places the hook on the cave surface from which point the rod and ball will swing from, so the trick is not only to click on the right spot, but also at the right time so that you can use the momentum to minimize mouse clicks. Imagine swinging from the vines or blocks in Pitfall or Umihara Kawase, except not on a flexible rope, and that's more or less B.A.L.L.O. There is only a few levels in the competition version, but the post-competition version 1.0.1.5 is much bigger and better, offering nicely drawn levels that are challenging enough to keep you hooked for hours. Two thumbs up!
