Broderbund 1986
Genre: Action
Rating: 1/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Long before your encounter with wicked Jaffar and conquest of make-belief Persia you used to be a karate martial artist sporting a fancy kimono. Your formerly sworn enemy was a cruel japanese warlord Akuma who having besеt your country had also kidnapped your beloved Princess Mariko. I don't suppose you need further directions now, do you? As far as the old "good guys vs bad guys" tradition you must now follow the trail of Akuma into his fortress situated up on a cliff, defeat a number of his guards along the way who are also trained in karate, and finally vanquish the tyrant himself to save the princess. In this game steel weapons have not been invented yet, so you can only rely on your bare knuckles and feet.

It's up to you now to save the princess from impending doom, defeat Jaffar and finally bring peace to the kingdom of Persia. But first you need to help yourself out of this stinking place full of brutal traps, pitfalls and certain unfriendly figures, and all you got is… precisely 1 hour!

Raid on Bungeling Bay

Will Wright / Broderbund 1984
Genre: Action
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: C64

It may seem unbelievable in these days, now that every computer game seems to be about war, spurting blood and severed limbs, but in the 80s, it was pretty much agreed on in the gaming press (here in Germany at least) that 'realistic' war themes are morally questionable and detract from the enjoyment of a game. So, the more otherworldly the story and the freakier the setting of a game about some sort of fighting, the better the ratings.

Shufflepuck Cafe

Broderbund 1989
Genre: Sport, Action
Rating: 4/6
Licence: Commercial
System: Amiga

This is definitely one of the strangest games I've ever played! Not much action, not much thinking, not much change. But nevertheless not a bad game!
The point is merely to play a kind of airhockey in a pub. This 'sport' is a bit difficult to explain to those who've never seen it. But I'll try:

The Dark Heart Of Uukrul

Broderbund 1990
Genre: RPG
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

The Dark Heart Of Uukrul (aka Uukrul or TDHOU) was a joint project of Martin Buis and Ian Boswell while they were studying together at Auckland University (New Zealand) in the early 80s, influenced by RPGs of the time such as the Wizardry series, but giving it another perspective about the way of doing things. They did most things together, from programming to puzzles and content. An acquaintance of them travelling to USA was asked to present a demo to some publishers, including Broderbund, Electronic Arts and Activision. Broderbund was enthusiastic of the project, and signed them on instantly.
