Alone in the Dark

indark01.png
Infogrames 1992
Genre: Adventure, Action
Rating: 4.5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

This game is loosely based on H.P. Lovecrafts works. So you can expect a decent horror atmosphere. And that's what the game is all about: the atmosphere! It is created mainly be the presentation. The graphics are an attempt to be as movie-like as possible. You're playing in third-person perspective. The perspective changes depending on the spot where your alter ego stands. You are of course always visible, but from different directions and angles! When walking around you sometimes have the feeling of real movie-cuts.

Champions of Krynn

Strategic Simulations, Inc. 1990
Genre: RPG
Rating: 5.5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Champions of Krynn... A game containing everything you'd expect from a classic RPG: magery, knights, thieves, dragons, epic battles, tragic love, heroic deeds, unexpected allies... I could go on forever. Well - not really forever, but you can imagine.

Death Knights of Krynn

Strategic Simulations, Inc. 1991
Genre: RPG
Rating: 4/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Introduction

Following up the rather well executed Champions of Krynn, the first gold box series game set in the Dragonlance setting, SSI brought us Death Knights of Krynn rather shortly after.

Master of Orion

SimTex / Microprose 1993
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 6/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Master of Orion - just a poor copy of Civilization or an independent game? The opinions differ extremely. There is hardly anyone who thinks it is mediocre. Either you hate it or you love it. As everbody can assume, I belong to the second group (else it would be in a different category). I'll explain why.

Pool of Radiance

SSI 1988
Genre: RPG
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Well, this is a classic. The first of the Gold Box games, and must say it shines. Not that it is perfect, but as a start it surely is great. Leaving you in charge of a team of adventures who must get rid of all the bad guys, it looks like a great way to adapt D&D into computer.
