Atlas

Atlas0.png
Sunflowers 1995
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 2/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Considering that Sunflowers created games like Fugger II and the Anno series, a similar game like Atlas can't be all that bad. Surprisingly, however, this game is just a knock-off of a Japanese game from 1991 which falls far behind my expectations.

Building Panic

BP1.png
Yamada No Ana Project 2001
Genre: Action, Puzzle
Rating: 1/6
Licence: Freeware
System: PC

Who will be first to finish the walls of their scyscraper? Who is quick enough to beat their opponents and trick the guards? If this sounds like fun to you, you may try a game of Building Panic. One game was more than enough for me.

Canasta

mediGlobe 1999
Genre: Puzzle
Rating: 3/6
Licence: Shareware
System: PC

Good, cheap or even free card games (Skat, Poker, Canasta etc.) are, as I had to experience myself, always hard to find. However, I have one which I would like to present: Canasta.

Most of you will know Canasta, so I will only briefly introduce the rough principles. At least there are countless rule variants and adaptions:

Civilization V

2015-10-08_00001.jpg
2K Games 2010
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

One of the most successful classics goes into its fifth incarnation. Sid Meier’s Civilization has not been matched yet… although there has only been one serious contender so far a couple of years ago – Call to Power. Will this unrivalled game in its fifth incarnation still be able to surprise us above new graphics?

Mad TV 2

MT00.png
Greenwood Entertainment 1996
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 3/6
Licence: Freeware
System: PC

Who didn't think about opening one's own TV station and broadcasting one's favourite movies without commercial breaks? Well, then you've come to the right place with Mad TV / Mad TV 2. The successful game's sequel is good for some discussion and different from the predecessor, it is not about conquering Betty Botterbloom, but really just about building up a successful TV station. (We already successfully got rid of her again in Mad News after all and now we're happy to be single again ;) )

Panzer General II

PG2_1.png
SSI 1997
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 6/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

The well-known classics' sequel which is even a tad better than the original. Overall, this sequel only differs in very few areas, so sharp tongues could claim that it basically just consists of new scenarios. This is, however, not the same – more about that later.

SimAnt

simant_000.png
Maxis 1991
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 3.7/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

[Wandrell] Handling an ant colony is one of those ideas which gave Maxis their fame for "sim" games. And no, this isn't a simple virtual ant farm, but a game where you actually handle an ant colony.

Supreme Ruler: Cold War

2015-10-03_00000.jpg
Paradox Interactive 2010
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 3/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

Supreme Ruler: Cold War – the title doesn't tell a lot; though if I now mention that you can wage the 3rd World War with nuclear weapons and that one of the goals is conquering and smashing all communist countries of the world, it should get quite interesting, shouldn't it? ;)

Theme Hospital

TH1.png
Bullfrog 1997
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 4/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

I would like to introduce another 'sequel' of one of the greatest classics of past kids games today. The critical question is whether Theme Hospital can match the 'desease potential' of Theme Park which may very well be one of the more popular games of its times, or whether this is another sequel successfully ruined. Well, this is what you will always learn at the very end ;)

Vermeer – Die Kunst zu erben

V01.png
Ascaron 1997
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

I, nephew of a rich uncle who lives in Berlin close to the Brandenburg Gate, set out in the chaos of the first world war to look all over the world for his stolen pictures. No, this isn't an Adventure game… neither a role-playing game or anything similar, but rather a solid economic simulation ;) Yes, the plot isn't so bad and it would fit perfectly into another genre…
