Alleyway

Intelligent Systems / Nintendo 1989
Genre: Action
Rating: 3.5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: Game Boy

This is the summary of an analysis of Alleyway. The goal of the survey was to determine if this Game Boy launch title stands the test of time. The review process was the following: After an initial online research the game was tested thoroughly in its original environment and a simulation. Additionally a series of interviews and discussions was conducted with contemporary players. The collected data was examined which lead to a conclusion on the game’s merits and shortcomings.

Descent

Parallax Software 1994
Genre: Simulation, Action
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Shareware
System: PC

"3D shooters" are embarassing in general, this typical German designation alone gets on ones nerves fast. In combination with that pimply teenager who murders at home while mummy is gone shopping, these accumulations of appropriate cliches become almost unplayable.

Myst

Cyan / Brøderbund 1993
Genre: Adventure, Puzzle
Rating: 3/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC, Amiga (AGA)

My relationship with Myst is an ambivalent one. At first, I was amazed by its 3D rendered graphics unknown at the time. Back then, I had never thought my computer could produce anything like these images. The gameplay however, wasn't quite as much fun as the game's optical qualities.

Sim City 2000

sc2000-01.png
Maxis 1994
Genre: Strategy
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC, Amiga (AGA)

Back in the 1980s and early 90s, the original Sim City had grown to be a very popular household brand name. Many people loved Sim City. It had been released on the Macintosh, IBM's PC, Super Nintendo and many other consoles over the years. So, when Maxis set out to create "Sim City 2", the developers knew they had to meet some huge expectations.

Stunts

Mindscape 1990
Genre: Sport, Simulation
Rating: 5.3/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

'Stunts' is a great and very action-packed racing simulation. You don't race against a bunch of other drivers but instead your main goal is to survive the numerous stunts each track has to offer, although you can still compete against a computer controlled car.

The Lost Vikings

Interplay 1993
Genre: Strategy, Action
Rating: 5/6
Licence: Commercial
System: PC

As I write this review/manual I assume you know nothing at all about the game. That's because anyone who has ever played The Lost Vikings will never forget it and won't need a manual or a review to get started again.
