This early IBM PC masterpiece is Billy Williams' 1984 port of his 8-bit Atari game of the previous year.

The game starts in an alley with trash cans, moving clothes lines and randomly opening windows. You climb up and avoid dogs, mice bites and junk flying out of the windows to enter one of five types of rooms. You might dive into a fishbowl to catch fish among electric eels, chase mice hiding in a huge wedge of cheese, tiptoe between a room full of sleeping dogs to eat their food, drop a birdcage and catch the canary, or knock over vases on top of a bookshelf guarded by a spider.

Now what should you think of this? A pseudo-esoteric 3D Sim with an unusual soundtrack. Yeah... that pretty much describes it. That's all? Hell no, of course not. The goal of the game itself is a bit unclear, but usually you have to find your way out of the room you are in, which in some cases is not difficult at all - at least it seems so - just jumping up those stairs. Yeah, you think - the gravity is different in those rooms, some stairs are just moving away and not all the doors you might want to use as an exit are open - you sometimes have to use crystals to open the doors. Nasty thing about this is that you can't even leave through the door you entered all the time - nice surprise to fall down from just below the roof, defintely eliminates the possibility of using that door again - hehe.


Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura

At first glance Arcanum looks like a role playing game full of great ideas: Its main attraction is its fantasy world, which is set at the time of an industrial revolution, that is about to turn it into a science fiction setting. It is a refreshingly unique place, full of whimsical magic and technical marvels, that has great potential for interesting twists to age-old cliches: How does an ageless being, like an elf, react to the rise of science, which is about to make the magic, that has kept him alive so far, obsolete? Is there a cheaper workforce than orcs, which can be exploited at will, for they are obviously evil and therefore deserve no less? Or what about safety: Should a wizard, whose magical power has an unpredictable effect on machines, be allowed to get close to steam engines or trains? There are so many new stories that could be told…

Last year, schoolboy Eric managed to steal his report card from the headmaster's safe. He has taken his time to forge a positive one. Now it's time to get it back into the safe.

A lot has happened on the school grounds over the holidays. It has been split in two sections: a boys school and a girls school (with a fence between them). The boys' building (the only part which could be seen in the prequel Skool Daze) has been expanded, too. There are now more classrooms, more offices, a new assembly hall and (perhaps the most useful innovation) a bathroom. The school has also bought a new safe to replace the old one. This one doesn't have a combination of numbers, but a simple lock. But where has the key been hidden?
