Well, I really considered this some time ago. Especially when I read about the beginning of the web, when it was some kind of a sport to write http-clients. I have even a book about web-protocols with an article how to implement the http-protocol...

But after all: I want to do so many things, so I have to set priorities and there are currently enough things for me to do.

Well, you can always start your own browser project

Also my personal problem with Open Source.
After all and at last OS seems to become something for the unemployed...

That's exactly the point. Even if I had the programming skills for such advanced programmes (which I don't), it'd still be almost impossible to get into such a complex high-profile project, because tracing back the way the codebase developed over time would be way too time consuming.

*hmpf* I'll consider it...

If it wouldn't take so long to get into those advanced OS-Projects...

As far as I know and read this it seems to be hard-coded into mycroft. This is not good...
But hey! It's Open-Source. If something is not the way we like it, we can change it ourselves...

I'm just wondering why it isn't possible to install search plugins on user basis into the profile directory. It's possible for extensions and themes, so why not in this case? Or am I missing anything?

Yes, of course!

The way every client should be configured.

With a seperate root-Account and a normal user-Account for everyday use, even if it is only a single-user-client...

I know this is right, but I'm so lazy...

How should I know? Anyway, I guess it's not working because the my standard user account doesn't have write privileges in the appropriate directory.

It works properly for myself in this case and another nearly equal thing I did yesterday at work, worked fine for several people, too.

Something special/wrong with your client?
Does it work for the other members here?

Maybe you have you have an aggressive Pop-Up-Blocker which is more restritive against special JavaScript-Elements or your Firefox is configured differently in case of JavaScript?

Yes, that's exactly the same thing which happens on the Mycroft-site: it asks something along the lines of 'do you really want to add this search engine?', I click 'OK', but nothing happens.

Why shouldn't it work???

Even the 'official' JavaScript 'installer' doesn't work here, so I doubt yours will be much better...

Just took a look at the Add-On-Site for the Search-Engines (http://mycroft.mozdev.org). Hey, it's relative easy to create such search-plugins, so it is a matter of time until we are flooded with these. I think we will need a search-engine f?r search-engines...

Also there is a proprietary JavaScript-Element to include a search engine.

I made a short example (mostly inspired by their source ) and attached it.

I will submit them both, but I first wanted to make sure they're actually working, because this was my first try at creating such a plugin. Anyway, here's a new version of the TGOD plugin with slightly cleaner code.

I just created a plugin for my local train station. Also, I tried to make one for http://www.stadtplandienst.de, but I failed because it seems to need a session ID to make it work.
